Every so often, the library has setups of different things they have every month. I have enjoyed the issue about Emmylou Harris’s “Pieces of the Sky” from 1975.
During the late 1960s to 1970s, Harris lived and performed around the D.C. area. She appeared at venues like the Cellar Door, the Childe Harold, Mr. Henry’s, Clyde’s in Georgetown, and the Assembly. She met Gram Parsons, who invited her to join his tour. She has earned 13 Grammys.
I love how they have an old jukebox in the main area where you come inside the library. It plays gospel, classical, opera, jazz, disco, go-go, punk rock, and more.
The “Chocolate City” is the third album by the funk band Parliament, released in 1975. It was a tribute to Washington, D.C., where the group was particularly popular; another one they have at the library is one about Bad Brains, and the album “Bad Brains” from 1982, with its now-iconic cover art by Donna Lee Parsons showing the Capitol struck by lightning.
