Music has a hold of me

Does it have a hold on you? When I get irritated or upset, music calms me. Does it calm you? There’s something in music. Music works to put you in a good space. I like when I’m all in a song, and my hands start moving to the lyrics. I’m such a lady but hip hop makes me have a thug moment.

Gospel music always makes me cry. It gives my soul a good wash. It puts me back on the right track. R&B makes me think about life, my past and future. All genres tell stories. I love them all. I have songs that touch me. They could be a person. I am linked to certain songs and particular artists. My playlist is linked to my heart.

Did I tell you music has a hold on me? When my kids were babies, I sang to each and everyone of them. I even made up a good night song and a good morning song. Now, music has a hold on them. There is no wrong type of music. If you like it, blast it, put a smile on your face or just feel your music rush you like a linebacker.

I have listened to so much music, my poetry is popping. It’s politically correct. Pay attention. Music is everywhere, you don’t need to play it to hear it. This drug called “music,” everyone is doing it. It is a beautiful natural high. You can tell when someone is under the influence of music. The way they move can have rhythm. They can be stiff or vibrant. People even try to stifle themselves from the music that is waiting to come out of their mouths.

You can use music to break every chain imaginable. lf you eat up the lyrics, you can give birth to knowledge. Have you ever listened to a song and heard your life story? Or things that happened on your journey? I have.

Music is everywhere. It’s on the elevator. It’s there when you are put on hold. Think about it. Music is everywhere: TV shows, bars, restrooms, when people have family outings, at church, work, ads and commercials. It’s on the internet and the list goes on. I have seen some people get upset with some music, especially if it’s not what they want to hear.

Have you ever had a song come on that you really didn’t like, and said I don’t like this song? But you sang it anyway, and you knew the words. I’m telling you music has a hold of me and I know it has a hold of you. Yes, you.
