Signs of Heat Stroke and Heat Exhaustion
- heavy sweating
- dizziness
- nausea
- faintness
- confusion
- very high body temperature
- rapid heartbeat
- lack of sweating
- loss of consciousness.
- Breathing in hot, humid air can irritate and narrow the airways, making it hard to breathe and may lead to shortness of breath.
- Can be rapid; you can go from feeling apparently well to a seriously ill condition within minutes.
- If you suspect that you or someone you know is experiencing a heat-related illness, call 911.

Lotta reasons to get your ID!
- Always carry ID on you. Or a make a copy and carry that. Leave a copy with family or a friend or your best case manager.
- Don’t have an ID? Come see Darick in Case Management. You can also get a DC1 ID at 1313 any week day before 3pm.
- Call the Shelter Hotline (202-399-7093) for the van if you need a place to sleep. They have vans for men and for women. Wait for the van, it will come eventually.
- Pat Handy shelter for women has space to wait for a bed if you’re a woman.
- If police stop you, remember you can tell them:
- “I am claiming my right to be silent.”
- “I do not consent to be searched.”
- “I am claiming the right to move my belongings.”
- “Am I free to leave?” Then leave if they say Yes.
- Call Washington Legal for the Homeless if the police harass you too much: 202-328-5500.
- Call or text Thomas if you see police acting aggressive so I can tell the Editors and they can cover it: 202-649-0146.

Working with the Editorial Team on Your Writing
- The Newspaper team wants to work with you! But they’re getting the new issue ready every other Monday and Tuesday. So if their door’s open, go on in and see them.
- Also, they come to Writer’s Workshop each week just to work with you! Writer’s Workshop is every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
- You can turn in a writing any day of the week. If the Editorial office is closed when you stop by with your writing, just leave it with staff in the Admin Office.
