Michael Phillips

Michael M. Phillips has been a staff reporter in The Wall Street Journal’s Washington bureau since 1995, writing on topics from discontent in rural America to Special Forces operations in sub-Saharan Africa. Since 2001, he has covered the ground wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Raised in Minneapolis, Michael attended Harvard College and the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. He lives in Washington with his wife, Julia Bucknall, and their two children and can sometimes be found running very slowly in Rock Creek Park.
