Through it all

It’s crazy how being in jail exposed to you how much fake love people have for you.

Some of my closest family and so-called friends haven’t sent me a letter, haven’t come to visit, or sent me any books to read. They’re the same people that I’ve looked out for — people that were doing less or had less. I helped them out or I assisted the people dealing with the same problems that I have. I’ll forgive y’all, but I’ll never forget.

I haven’t gotten one visitor since I’ve been locked up. But, I’m supposed to have so much love out there. LOL. I’ve got people throwing dirt on my family name: McCall. I’ll forgive y’all, but I’ll never forget.

You can put me in any situation and I’ll stand tall in it and deal with it. Because, that’s just how I’m built. But, if you have a loved one incarcerated, support does matter. Because, they are probably at the lowest point of their life. Something as simple as hearing their name called during mail call can make a difference in their day. So, in the words of my great mom, “Y’all hold your people down.”

I’m straight, as long as I keep writing for Street Sense. But, I know there’s a lot of people who aren’t as strong as I am and who need you. So, be there for them. I’m not talking about asking them if they’re straight or if they need something. Because, if they are prideful like me, they’ll always say that they’re good. Just do it, like Nike, for them — if that’s your true intentions. 99.9% of “being real” is still fake and 101% is animated. Keep it 100 with your people!
