The youth today

The youth today get carried away
Don’t love one another like back in the day
Use guns and knives to get their way
Snort a little coke, smoke a little hay
Don’t feel loved but nothing they say
Then get mad at the world for walking away
Maybe things would be better
If we all stick together
To turn our strong nights
Into sunny weather
We need to find another way
Rather than killing one another today
Now one of your loved ones
Has gone away
And all they gonna say is,
“Mm, mm, mm, that’s the youth of today.”

I wrote this piece when I was in ninth grade for my English teacher, Mrs. W. and for my
ninth grade classmates. “As a youth, for the youth.”
