Potential
That piece of what it means to be human,
That never gets satisfied in a lifespan
Of very few months to almost a century.
The spark of what could be
That would no longer be “could”
But “have been” if completely achieved
Not the beginning but the end.
Possibility
The answer of “what if,” not “what was”
The near-infinite span of a life
That can bring calamity or a golden age or
Normalcy
Which is why potential can never be satis¬fied
For no mere mortal can ever truly have the courage
To completely fulfill his
Potential
