The Reward of Just Being Clean

White House

Last Saturday, after I left my daily N.A. (Narcotics Anonymous) meeting, I caught the bus and got off at the Greyhound station. I observed a Spanish family, not speaking any English trying to catch a cab. I helped them hail one but when I tried to talk with the driver, he pulled away. Meanwhile, a Gypsy cab driver started hovering, trying to get the family into his car.

Speaking a little Spanish I found out a bit about the family’s story. They had a couple of hours before their bus left and they wanted to see the White House. The Gypsy cab driver wanted to charge them $60 to go to the White House. I felt bad because the cab was trying to get over on people who didn’t know better.

At one time my addiction would have ticked in but now my mother’s words ticked in.
Treat others as you would want to be treated.

I took them to the bus stop. Then I thought: ‘Heck I’m doing nothing, I’ll take them myself.’

I went along with them and I took them five different places. They showed so much gratitude that I got an unbelievable high, like I was on Cloud Nine. I felt better now than in my addiction because I did it unconditionally. It’s like getting a million dollars and not getting a dime. My pockets were empty but my HEART WAS FULL. God is better to me than I have been to myself. Much peace and love to all of you because we are all brothers and sisters in Christ. Keep a smile on your face. Remember anything negative… this too shall PASS!!
