The moment of mercy

Graphic by Bruna Costa

If the world were a university, the American continent would be a better faculty and place
If the American continent is a better place, the USA is a promised land
If the USA is a promised land, Washington, D.C. is a golden garden
If Washington, D.C. is a golden garden, love always prevails

Let’s make this a better place where people can hope for the future
We’ve all seen today, but none know the uncertain tomorrow
I’ve seen many people keep working hard to keep humanity standing up
I’ve seen time fly and standstill, the dime rise, and people looking for each other’s help
A better place where people take care of one another without saying where they’re from
The sense of love without condition, the respect of others without situation

Where there is no hope, there is always a day or a cause the people are fighting for
When there is no place to go, there is always a face to bow
When you feel like you can’t stand, there is always a hand
A hand of promise, the promise of the future and tomorrow

I’ve seen many tears drop down, but still, there is always hope through the window
Among all these people living on the street, there are many windows and meadows
When many are looking for something to eat, there is always someone who gives away food
Even if some refuse to know the reality, there is still someone homeless
Some of them understand people are in need, not because they are homeless and hopeless
But because they refuse to see their brothers and sisters on the street with nothing to eat
Despite what some of them said, many have compassion and keep giving hope to others

We fall, but together we stand strong for a better place to leave for the next generations
Today’s values need to be kept for future generations across the nations
If I knew I would be homeless one day, definitely, I would have given donations
Now I learn how to be there for others, teaching people how to love and help others
When you have one, remember to give one
Advocate for your neighbors and bring hope
Break the chain of stigmatization and work out the unification
To make a better future

We believe ending homelessness begins with listening to the stories of those who have experienced it.
