The long wait for housing

My first time applying for housing, I was 18 and in foster care. The process was very long, with lots of paperwork. Sign here, sign there. There were meetings for permanent housing and Section 8 vouchers. It can take a while to hear anything. I was young and in and out of jail, so I never stayed still long enough at the time to follow-up and update my paperwork for housing. The year is now 2021 and yes, I’m taking housing seriously because my health has been declining during cold winter seasons. Now I’m working with Catholic Charities on getting permanent supportive housing. It seems like it can get done by working with a support staffer and updating paperwork. I am hopeful. But I’m doubtful, too, because of the process. It’s a waiting game.
