Movie review: ‘Batman: Bad Blood’

I lost my phone, but guess what? YouTube is still free. Grab the popcorn, and let’s watch “Batman: Bad Blood.” If you’re wondering why this animated film of 72 minutes exists, let me tell you without giving it all away. THE BAT FAMILY. This entry of wings, batarangs, and masks equates to a whole kit and caboodle. BATS! There’s a lot of f’ing bats in this one. LOL, jokes aside, though, this isn’t your typical lineup. DC has used this plot device twice. The family device that is. This lineup is compromised of mostly guys, but it has two lady cape crusaders; I’m actually going to leave it at that.

This timeline gives us some insight into the details regarding Bruce Wayne’s (Batman) relationship with the daughter of Ra’s al Ghul: Talia al Ghul (League of Shadows). A relationship that’s kinda funny, but yet a low smoldering fire you get to play with in your head a little bit. You’ll see it through different animated movies: “Son of Batman;” “Batman vs Robin;” and “The Justice League vs. The Teen Titans.” Talia admits to Bruce: “Oh, beloved, you have no idea. I have thought of little else for the last 12 years.” A line that hits BATS pretty deep with how her master plan intersects with the fate of the world and their child.
She’s brilliant, but turns absolutely cutthroat as the plot thickens! A new mob of criminals is at Talia’s beckoning. These guys hit a lot harder than Falcone’s mob with efforts that almost take out a chunk of the BAT FAMILY. High-tech weaponry, mutants, and strategies that mimic the FAM almost actually get the best of the FAM. You’ll see them argue amongst each other, but not for very long because they’re way too intricately woven. I guess when DC does something like this, you don’t expect the new set of henchmen to be visceral; let’s just keep them around this time around. This element could really work. You would think you’d want to keep them in rotation because it adds a new coat of paint to the already used baddies we know and still love. Just a thought. This turned out to be a great watch, our animation, the same! Great, for our cowl-wearing crusaders. Timeline interwines with the actual graphic novels, also great for our readers. Still playing for free if you’re on a budget, which is also great.
In other news, James Gunn may have the actual gun to his head if he can’t align his political views with his paycheck. I guess that could mean a lot of things considering the whole potential good girl (Power Girl), bad girl (Super Girl) team-up or meetup rumored in his lineup. Our Sydney Sweeney (Power Girl) teamed with the infamous Milly Alcock (Super Girl) could bring some light to the dark, almost Guardians of the Galaxy-esque Super Girl: Woman of Tomorrow title. What does this look like? Who knows? Costume changes all around… I’d say yay. Some better writing… of course. Will James go Democratic-esque with an almost all woman lineup including Zatanna, and a new Wonder Woman or will this be the ‘60s in color of previous cinema!?! Who knows, let’s wait, and see! Last on our DC universe list… can we get a Batman Beyond comic refresher… can we please…with some new villains in that series? Every time they do this, I feel like it’s very good, but never worth the wait. A 100-150 run. That’s all I’m asking! Check this one out, and its animated counterpart too. It’s really underrated.
