Happy Fourth

Graphic by Bruna Costa

I learned about the Fourth of July when I was in the first or second grade. Our days began with the pledge of allegiance. My last experience learning about the Fourth of July was in history class sometime in high school.

I learned the Civil War was about states rights and freeing the slaves — partly because many were forced to fight against their will. July Fourth is worth celebrating either for revolution or evolution. I celebrate the Fourth of July because it’s my birthday.
