The Tree of Life, Part 3

The tree that inspired this poem. Photo by Ron Dudley

They say I’m the tree of life

Everybody wanna kill me

Now even the government tryna bring me down

They say I’m the tree of life

I was sleepin’

I was resting

Now I’m resurrecting

‘Cause the world needs protection

They say I’m the tree of life

They wanna kill me for no reason

Nailed a camera in my bark

So they can watch through the seasons

They say I’m the tree of life

They even tried to give me COVID

Nineteen times

That’s when I exploded

They say I’m the tree of life

I got a warning from the heavens

That the planet is headed for a dead end

They say I’m the tree of life

First I had to sweep and mop the galaxy

I came back to sanitize democracy

They say I’m the tree of life

I caught a comet with a leaf

It saved a baby as we speak

They say I’m the tree of life

You are a narcissist, the devil

Even the tree couldn’t help you

They say I’m the tree of life

I just saved a shellfish from a whale

‘Cause it was helpless

They say I’m the tree of life

I just saved a whale

‘Cause a shark bit its tail

They say I’m the tree of life

I just saved a shark

‘Cause it couldn’t see in the dark

They say I’m the tree of life

I guided it back to the sea

Then I fixed the pod on a pea

They say I’m the tree of life

They tried to kill me one night

It was winter time

They kill me with ice

They say I’m the tree of life

I was blind and could not see

Then I bump my head into a tree

They say I’m the tree of life.
