We think there’s just not enough Street Sense. And it seems like you agree with us — our papers have been selling out consistently, and we’re seeing more demand than we’ve had since before 2020. We get it. Homelessness and poverty are central to both local and national news right now. There are a lot of questions about how possible policy changes will impact our community, and there’s a real need for a place to hear from those most affected.
So, we’re excited to offer you an additional way to stay informed: a new, bi-weekly email newsletter breaking down some of Street Sense’s biggest stories, highlighting our favorite art and poems from our vendors, and rounding up reporting about homelessness, housing, and poverty from around the city and the country.
If you choose to subscribe (and we sure hope you do), we’ll be in your inbox every other Wednesday starting later this month. The newsletter will come out on the weeks we don’t put out a paper, so you can still get your Street Sense fix as you wait to buy the next issue.
This newsletter will be different from our print paper. While we will share articles from the newspaper for people not in the D.C. area, who can’t find a vendor, or prefer to read online, we’ll also share exclusive behind-the-scenes details, what we’re reading, and, occasionally, an online-only article.
At the end of the day, Street Sense exists to serve our vendors. We’re never going to stop being a print publication or selling papers, and we hope you never stop buying them. But we know there are lots of ways to get news these days, and we want our journalism to be as accessible as possible.
If you’d like to sign up for the newsletter, go to bit.ly/StreetSensenews, and make sure you check the box saying you’d like to receive news about housing and homelessness. See you in your inbox!
